Alicia Silverstone is set to return to her Northern California roots this summer to mark the 30th anniversary of the film that catapulted her to stardom.
The San Mateo-raised actress will host a special screening of “Clueless” at the San Jose Civic on July 25. The event will feature a live onstage conversation and audience Q&A with Silverstone following the movie.
Written and directed by Amy Heckerling and based loosely on the Jane Austen novel “Emma,” “Clueless” became a defining teen comedy of the 1990s, turning Silverstone’s portrayal of the well-meaning but oblivious Beverly Hills high schooler Cher Horowitz into a cultural icon.
“Clueless” was praised for its fashion, slang and satirical wit, and it remains a touchstone for fans decades later. It also included a breakout performance by Paul Rudd.
Attendees can expect behind-the-scenes stories from Silverstone, who made her film debut in 1993’s “The Crush” and rose to fame with a string of Aerosmith music videos.
