This event is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required.

For one night only, the station’s historic ticketing hall will be transformed into the south of Spain featuring select scenes from one of the world’s most beloved operas. The LA Opera’s production of Carmen opens September 9 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, a block away from Civic Center/Grand Park Station.

Free and open to the public, the performance will feature flamenco dancers, a Spanish guitarist and breathtaking arias from the upcoming L.A. production. The evening will showcase performers from the LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program singing some of Carmen’s famous arias, including the Habanera.

Carmen is one of the most popular and beloved operas and perfect for opera lovers and newbies alike. In LA Opera’s production of Carmen, the dazzling Ana María Martínez returns to Los Angeles as opera’s most seductive temptress. Nobody—not even a lover—can tame Carmen, who bursts into life on the stage with an intoxicating whirl of thrilling choreography, vivid orchestrations and heart-stopping drama. Bizet’s unforgettable score is an endless parade of one great melody after the other, from the languid allure of Carmen’s sensual songs to the macho boasts of the dashing bullfighter.
