Award-winning film is final film in a tribute to David Lynch, celebrating his legacy
The Sedona International Film Festival is proud to present ‘The Straight Story’ showing July 1 and 2 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre.
‘The Straight Story’ is the final film in a series honoring the work of legendary director David Lynch.
The film stars Richard Farnsworth (who earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for this role), Harry Dean Stanton and Sissy Spacek, among others.
A retired farmer and widower in his 70s, Alvin Straight (Richard Farnsworth) learns one day that his distant brother Lyle (Harry Dean Stanton) has suffered a stroke and may not recover. Alvin is determined to make things right with Lyle while he still can, but his brother lives in Wisconsin, while Alvin is stuck in Iowa with no car and no driver’s license. Then he hits on the idea of making the trip on his old lawnmower, thus beginning a picturesque and at times deeply spiritual odyssey.
‘The Straight Story’ will be shown at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre on Tuesday, July 1, at 4 p.m. and Wednesday, July 2, at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $12, or $9 for Film Festival members. For tickets and more information, please call 928-282-1177. Both the theatre and film festival office are located at 2030 W. Hwy. 89A, in West Sedona. For more information, visit SedonaFilmFestival.org.
